The Czech Republic
| The Czech Republic is in central Europe. It has borders with Poland, Slovakia, Austria and Germany. Formerly parts of Czechoslovakia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia split on January 1, 1993. The Czech Republic has 3 parts: Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. The second biggest city is Brno and it also is the capital city of Moravia. The Czech Republic has an area around 80 000 square km. Prague is the capital and largest city. The population of the Czech Republic is around 10 000 000 inhabitants and Prague has around 1 200 000 inhabitants. Prague is the seat of president (Václav Klaus now), parliament, senate and Radek Korcak. The Czech Republic became part of European Union from 1st May.
The borders are mostly defined by mountains and rivers. The best known mountain ranges are Šumava, Krušné Hory, Jizerské Hory, Krkonoše, Orlické Hory, Jeseníky and Beskydy. The highest mountain of the CR is Sněžka, it has 1602 m and it lies in Krkonoše. Bohemia is separated from Moravia by the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The largest rivers are the Elbe, the Vltava and the Morava. Although there are only a few natural lakes in the country, Southern Bohemia has many artificial lakes, which date from the 16th century. There are many mineral springs throughout the country, around many of which saps have developed (Karlovy Vary, Třeboň, Mariánské Lázně). Czechs are the 1st in amount of drinking beer in the world. That is because we have the best beer in the world. Famous breweries are: Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus and others breweries do not have to be named because they are not so good. Typical food is roast pork with bread dumplings and sauerkraut.
The Czech Republic is really beautiful country and everybody should see it.
